My research is about the social, cultural and political contexts of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) in the
UK. In recent years I have involved with a charity called English for Action which uses an approach called ‘Participatory ESOL’. This places the students and their experiences at the heart of learning and works with them to effect social change in their communities. You can read about them here.
Another interesting organisation based in Kent is Beyond the Page (BTP): as their website says: BTP brings women from different backgrounds together to break down barriers of language and cultural differences and provides a unique learning, creative and social space where women can build trust and confidence.
