Multilingualism as a therapeutic asset

The Centre for Language, Discourse and Society is hosting Dr Beverly Costa, the founder of a culturally and linguistically sensitive therapeutic support service for people from black and minority ethnic communities, www.mothertongue.org.uk.

The likelihood of clients and therapist not sharing the same mother tongue is increasing in the era of mass migration. Some therapists are unprepared to deal with this.

In her talk at Kings’ Waterloo campus on 7th November, Dr Costa will consider the way in which multilingualism can be a therapeutic asset when working with trauma, informed by her own research and her time at Mothertongue.
